On the 24 shortish tracks of Dino’s latest release he hits familiar and signature sound fields and due to his many years off the scene has evolved that sound into something more, something refined. A lot of guitar, both acoustic and electric, and as usual, mixed with his turn-on-a-dime melodies, time, key and mood changes and super clean edits. Dino has always incorporated personal elements into his lyrics and that continues here as he reveals tidbits from people he has known and experiences he’s had surrounded by his trademark wit and nods to Beefheart and Zappa.
I once called Dino “the best home taper in America” and while the term ”home taper” may mean something different now my feelings haven’t changed.
